As part of its 2027 regional expansion strategy, Congo Investment Group (CIG) is preparing for a planned entry into Zambia, extending its investment platform across the Central African Copperbelt.
Preparatory work is underway in 2026 and will focus on market development, institutional engagement, opportunity identification, strategic partnerships, regulatory and corporate planning, and the assessment of future leadership requirements for CIG’s Zambia operations.
The proposed expansion reflects CIG’s broader strategy of building an integrated investment and project-development platform across markets where critical minerals, energy, infrastructure and industrial development are creating significant opportunities for long-term investment.
Why Zambia
Zambia represents a natural extension of CIG’s activities and regional investment strategy.
Its established mining industry, significant mineral resources, growing demand for energy and infrastructure, and position within the Central African Copperbelt create substantial opportunities across the sectors in which CIG is increasingly active.
The country’s geographic and commercial relationship with the Democratic Republic of the Congo also provides a strong basis for developing a more integrated regional platform connecting projects, investors, technical partners and institutions across the Copperbelt.
CIG’s planned Zambia presence is intended to strengthen the Group’s ability to:
- originate and develop high-quality investment opportunities;
- support investors and strategic partners entering the Zambian market;
- connect viable projects with appropriate financial, technical and institutional partners;
- develop opportunities across the DRC–Zambia Copperbelt;
- support project preparation, transaction development and execution; and
- identify opportunities for selective CIG participation alongside strategic partners.
The expansion is intended to complement, rather than duplicate, CIG’s existing regional capabilities.
2026–2027 Market Entry
2026 — Preparation and Market Development
During the preparatory phase, CIG will focus on:
- market intelligence and sector mapping;
- institutional and industry engagement;
- identification and assessment of investment opportunities;
- engagement with prospective commercial and strategic partners;
- corporate, regulatory and operational planning;
- development of CIG’s Zambia opportunity pipeline; and
- identification of the leadership capabilities required for the future operation.
2027 — Planned Market Entry
Subject to completion of the necessary corporate, regulatory and commercial preparations, CIG is targeting 2027 for the establishment of its Zambia presence.
The scale and timing of CIG’s activities will be determined by market conditions, the quality of identified opportunities, strategic partnerships and the Group’s operational requirements.
CIG intends to pursue a disciplined market-entry approach, with initial emphasis on origination, investment development and strategic relationships before progressively expanding its local capabilities.
Areas of Focus
CIG expects its initial Zambia strategy to concentrate on five closely related areas.
Critical Minerals & Mining
CIG will evaluate opportunities across mining, critical minerals, exploration, mine development and associated value chains, with particular emphasis on commercially viable projects capable of attracting institutional and international investment.
Energy & Industrial Power
Reliable power remains central to mining and industrial development. CIG intends to evaluate opportunities involving generation, transmission, renewable energy, storage and industrial power solutions serving mines and other large commercial users.
Mineral Processing & Industrial Development
CIG will assess opportunities that support greater domestic and regional value creation, including mineral processing, beneficiation and the development of supporting industrial capacity.
Infrastructure & Logistics
The Group will consider transport, logistics and other enabling infrastructure required to support mining, industrial activity and regional trade.
Investment & Project Development
CIG’s core role will include the origination, preparation and development of investment opportunities; structuring strategic partnerships; connecting projects with capital and technical expertise; and supporting transactions toward implementation.
Zambia Market Entry — Engagement & Future Leadership
As CIG advances its Zambia strategy, the Group is beginning to engage selectively with experienced professionals, business leaders, institutional stakeholders and potential strategic partners whose expertise may contribute to the development of its future Zambia platform.
CIG is not currently conducting a formal recruitment process and is not accepting applications or résumés for Zambia positions at this stage.
Formal recruitment opportunities will be communicated separately when the appropriate stage of the market-entry process has been reached.
Future Leadership Profile
While no formal position is currently open, CIG expects future senior leadership in Zambia to require a combination of strong local market knowledge, commercial credibility and institutional experience.
CIG is particularly interested in engaging professionals who broadly demonstrate:
- 8+ years of relevant professional experience;
- significant professional experience and networks in Zambia;
- senior-level exposure to mining, energy, infrastructure, investment, finance or project development;
- demonstrated commercial judgment and understanding of investment or transaction development;
- the ability to engage credibly with senior executives, investors, government institutions, financial institutions and international partners; and
- high standards of integrity, discretion and professional conduct.
The future leadership mandate is expected to require more than administrative management. CIG will ultimately seek individuals capable of contributing to market development, opportunity origination, institutional engagement, strategic partnerships and the establishment of a high-performing country platform.
Experience with multinational companies, development-finance institutions, investment firms, major mining or energy companies, professional-services firms or cross-border transactions may be particularly relevant.
Political access alone will not constitute a sufficient qualification. CIG’s emphasis will remain on commercial capability, professional credibility, execution experience and institutional judgment.
Institutional & Strategic Engagement
CIG also welcomes engagement from organizations whose activities align with its planned Zambia strategy, including:
- mining and natural-resources companies;
- energy and infrastructure developers;
- engineering and technical firms;
- financial institutions and investment firms;
- development-finance institutions;
- project sponsors and asset owners;
- government and investment-promotion institutions; and
- other credible strategic partners active in Zambia and the wider Copperbelt region.
Engagement during this stage is intended to support market understanding, relationship development and the identification of potential areas of cooperation ahead of CIG’s planned entry.
