Project Prospection & Engagement Criteria

Congo Investment Group engages selectively with project sponsors and institutional partners seeking to advance complex initiatives in emerging markets through disciplined preparation, governance structuring, and execution readiness. Our prospection process is designed to identify initiatives where upstream advisory intervention can materially improve institutional alignment and long-term viability.

Intended Audience

This page is intended for:

  • Project sponsors and developers seeking advisory support to structure and position initiatives to institutional standards

  • Institutional partners (including DFIs, public agencies, and long-term investors) interested in understanding the types of projects CIG evaluates and supports

CIG does not solicit capital, manage assets, or act as a placement agent. Engagements are advisory and governed by written mandates.

Evaluation Criteria

CIG evaluates initiatives that demonstrate:

  • Meaningful scale and execution complexity

  • Clear development, infrastructure, or strategic relevance

  • Sponsors seeking governance, risk, and institutional structuring support

  • Alignment with compliance, ESG, and long-term execution principles

We prioritize initiatives where structured preparation, not capital access alone, is the primary constraint to progress.

Sectors of Interest

Consistent with our institutional focus, we engage primarily in:

  • Energy and power infrastructure

  • Transportation and logistics infrastructure

  • Strategic and critical resources

  • Climate-aligned and transition-related assets

Projects outside these sectors may be considered on a selective basis where institutional structuring needs are compelling.

Stage of Engagement

CIG typically engages at early to mid-development stages, including:

  • Conceptual or pre-feasibility phase

  • Early feasibility or structuring phase

  • Initiatives requiring institutional repositioning prior to capital engagement

We do not intervene in late-stage capital placement or transactional execution.

Our Screening & Engagement Process

  1. Initial Submission
Project sponsors submit a high-level overview outlining scope, sector, location, and current stage.

  2. Preliminary Review
CIG conducts an initial assessment focused on institutional fit, execution complexity, and advisory relevance.

  3. Confidentiality & Information Exchange
Where appropriate, further review is conducted under confidentiality arrangements.

  4. Advisory Mandate (If Applicable)
Engagements proceed only under a clearly defined advisory mandate and written agreement.

CIG reserves the right to decline engagements that do not align with our focus or standards.

For Institutional Partners

Institutional partners engage with CIG to:

  1. Access institution-ready project pipelines under preparation

  2. Collaborate on upstream risk, governance, and structuring frameworks

  3. Align public and private capital engagement strategies

Such collaboration does not imply endorsement or commitment unless explicitly stated in writing.
